NIRMAAN (‘to construct’) is a residential program conducted periodically for our students with special needs at ARVINDAALAYAM – our residential facility in Poonamallee (Chennai), in order to provide them an environment and opportunity to learn independent living. A lot of planning and dedication goes into this.
It is not easy for such children to leave their homes, siblings and parents and stay away for 2 days overnight. It’s not easy for parents either, though part of the idea of NIRMAAN is to provide respite to parents too however short it is. The module is designed to provide therapeutic and entertaining engagement for our student.
The take-away, experience and learnings were huge (for all – students, staff and parents). The fact that almost every student who attended this program found it so difficult to leave the venue revealed how much they related to this event.
We thank all the parents who placed so much faith in us and entrusting us with the care of their children. This event would not have been possible without our dedicated staff, who went over and above their duty to take care of these children for these 2 days and nights. including feeding, training, washing and sleeping experience of these children. All the sponsors and donors who supported us and of course our wonderful students who are the stars that guide us. They again taught us a lot of things.
